Alex Anmahian, AIA – Jury Chair

Alex Anmahian is a founding partner of AW, a highly collaborative multidisciplinary practice committed to design and construction innovation. Since its inception in 1992, AW has completed a range of institutional, commercial, residential, and industrial projects including the Gemma Observatory in central New Hampshire, the Capitol Vista Office Tower in Ankara, Turkey, the Joukowsky Institute at Brown University, and the Community Rowing Boathouse in Boston. AW’s current work includes the ICA Watershed, a contemporary satellite exhibition hall in East Boston, Wilson Hall at Brown University, the Knafel Center at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University, the American Boathouse in Camden, Maine, and Left of Passage, Right of Passage, a public art installation in Amman, Jordan.

Recognized nationally and internationally, AW has been published in American, European, and Asian publications and has received numerous design awards from the American Institute of Architects, the Boston Society of Architects and other regional chapters of the AIA, as well as from PA Awards, the Architecture League’s Emerging Voices, Award, Business Week/Architectural Record, AZ Awards, the American Athenaeum, and the American Architecture Prize.

Anmahian has taught design studio, lectured, and served as a visiting critic at MIT, Harvard GSD, RISD, the American University of Beirut, SUNY at Buffalo, Northeastern University, University of Florida, and NC State. Alex received a Masters in Architecture from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida.
